ToggleWhen the going gets tough, the tough turn to herbs
You know, there’s a certain charm to uncovering the secrets of nature. It’s like solving a puzzle, finding those unexpected elements that come together in harmony, enhancing our wellbeing.
Today we’re looking at a product that makes a rather compelling promise: Nature’s Truth Horny Goat Weed with Maca. You might be familiar with the name but may not know much about all of its ingredients, or maybe it’s entirely new to you.
Regardless, we’re going to dive into what this product is all about, unpack its claims, and scrutinize what’s in it.
My aim with this article is to share useful info with you so you can determine if this supplement is worth investing in or not.
Science resources included
As is my custom here on heydayDo, I will provide links to all of the relevant sports science and medical resources, clinical studies, & nutritional data used in this article.
A Peek into Nature’s Truth’s Ingredients
Labeled as a Male Performance Formula, this product is a 5-ingredient blend. Let’s take a quick peek at them now, and save the deep dive into their research results ’til later.
First off we have Horny Goat Weed, or Epimedium as some like to call it. It’s a plant that’s been used in traditional Chinese medicine for a long (long) time, and one of its uses there has been as an aphrodisiac.
Next up is Maca, a tough little root that grows in high elevation in the Andes mountains of Peru. People often call it the ‘Peruvian ginseng’ because of its ability to provide you with stimulant-free energy.
Now let’s meet the other key players. We have Tribulus Terrestris, a plant that grows in warmer parts of the world and is known for its spiky fruit. Out West where I live it’s called Goat’s Head, and those teeny spiky ‘fruits’ can puncture your bike tires.
Then there’s Yohimbe, which comes from the bark of the very tall African (Pausinystalia johimbe) tree. Its reputation as an aphrodisiac is probably bigger than its performance, but I’ll get into that later.
The last ingredient we have is L-Arginine HCI (just ”arginine’ will do), a type of amino acid. Our own bodies make it and use it to help us in lots of ways, mainly with the building of protein & nitric oxide, the latter having a lot to do with blood flow & cardio performance.
Where the rubbers meet the road
Each one of the ingredients adds something special to this Male Performance Formula, but we’re all special. So while this might sound like an exciting mix of ingredients, it’s important to keep our feet on the ground.
What makes a supplement good isn’t just what’s in it, but more importantly:
- how much of each ingredient it has,
- how well they work together,
- and what the scientific & real-world proof say about them.
As we dig deeper into these interesting ingredients and their potential benefits, I invite you to keep an open mind. We’re going to learn more about why these ingredients are used when it comes to men’s health.
And by men’s health I’m talking about sexual performance & desire, since that’s likely the only reason someone would buy a supplement like this.
Before we dive in — it’s key to remember that there’s no magic pill for good health. Eating a clean balanced diet, getting regular exercise, and getting enough sleep are still the best ways to stay healthy & ‘fire on all cylinders’.
Next up, I want us to look at what the company who makes Nature’s Truth Horny Goat Weed With Maca says about this supplement, as well as check out what a handful of customer reviews have to say too.
The Promise of Nature’s Truth Horny Goat Weed with Maca
So let’s talk about what Nature’s Truth Horny Goat Weed with Maca could ‘potentially’ do for you.
The makers of this supplement say it’s specially made for men, with a mix of herbs from around the world, and that they want their product to help you live a healthier life.
As we looked over the ingredients list a minute ago, we could see that this product is positioning itself in the market as a natural alternative to Viagra, & the other pharma drugs like it.
But let’s look at what real users have to say.
Nature’s Truth horny goat weed blend user reviews
Many men say they’ve seen real changes when they started taking this supplement. They talk about having more energy and feeling better overall, with some saying it’s helped spice up their love lives.
These stories might make you excited to give it a try yourself, but as with every other supplement ever made, not everyone had the same great results.
Some people didn’t see any changes at all. Others felt some negative side effects that most reviewers blamed on the ingredient Yohimbe. (I’m inclined to agree with that guess myself.)
These different user reactions — some totally satisfied, some disappointed — are very typical when it comes to the effectiveness of any herbal supplement.
So this is a perfect reminder to us that what works for one person might not work for another.
Overall, a decent buyer rating
Even with these mixed reactions, most people who tried Nature’s Truth Horny Goat Weed with Maca overall seemed pretty happy with it.
I counted up all the reviews I could find, wherever it’s sold online, and I ended up with around 800 or so. I calculated the customer rating from all those & it came out to 4.3 out of 5 stars.
So that’s pretty good, like a strong ‘B’ in high school.
But remember that reviews are just personal experiences that others have had, and each of us is truly unique. They’re useful to know, but they shouldn’t be the only thing you consider.
When you have no personal experience with a supplement, I think it’s also important to look at the science behind the ingredients.
And so we’ll do just that in the next section.
Unpacking the Ingredients
I’m about to walk you through the science behind the ingredients in Nature’s Truth Horny Goat Weed with Maca. I promise to try & keep it from being too dry, but it’s important we do this.
We’ll uncover the story of each ingredient, look at what research tells us, and I’ll give you my 2¢ take on what it all means.
Horny Goat Weed
What It Is
Horny Goat Weed is also called Epimedium & Yin Yang Huo. It’s a plant from the highlands of China known for its leaves & stems, which have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries.
A fun fact is that its name comes from farmers observing the behavior of goats who ate it.
What Science Says
Horny Goat Weed has been linked to some potential benefits for men’s health. Some men using it reported better stamina and energy levels.
In another case, it was seen to promote healthy blood flow, which is crucial for general wellness. Also, its flavonoid called icariin could play a part in maintaining testosterone levels.
My Summary
While Horny Goat Weed does have some interesting qualities, the research is not concrete enough to confirm the full range of benefits when it comes to sexual performance.
IMPORTANT: That doesn’t mean it doesn’t work, but it does mean the evidence to help prove that is weak.
The doses used in the supplement are usually on par with those used in successful research studies; it’s important any supplement you buy does that.
Yet always keep in mind that individual responses may vary greatly.
Maca Root
What It Is
Maca is a plant native to Peru’s high mountain country, where it easily grows at an elevation of 14,000 feet or so. It’s been used in the region for over 2000 years for energy, libido, & in other traditional medicine ways.
And it’s been a staple in the diet of the people who live there for that long too (I figure I’ve been drinking it daily for a little less time than they have).
Maca is known for its root, which can come in different colors — yellow, red, & black — that are all turned into a decent-tasting concentrated powder.
I mentioned that people have called it “Peruvian ginseng”, although it’s no ginseng. It’s a brassica root vegetable closely related to the turnip, kale, & broccoli. Here, take a look at some black maca roots:
What Science Says
Maca has been associated with a boost in mood, a decrease in anxiety, and improved memory in various instances. There’s also evidence to suggest that it could help maintain a healthy libido. Furthermore, it was seen to potentially assist in endurance performance.
My Summary
IMHO, the research backing maca for its benefits is stronger than what horny goat weed can boast about.
Maca might have some value, particularly in its potential for:
- boosting your energy without a stimulant like caffeine;
- balancing hormones;
- reducing issues from menopause or post-menopause;
- enhancing physical & sexual performance; and
- improving mood, memory, & mental clarity.
The dosage used in this supplement is consistent with amounts seen in some of the two dozen studies I’ve come across.
As always is the case with herbal supplements, more research is needed to validate these benefits.
(Money talks, and Big Pharma won’t fund your study unless they think they can line their pockets down the road…“That’s life, kid”.)
Tribulus Terrestris
What It Is
Tribulus Terrestris, also known as Puncture Vine or Goat’s Head, is a plant that grows in many parts of the world, especially in my yard after summer rains.
It has a history of use in traditional medicines, particularly as an aphrodisiac, mood enhancer, & an overall ‘get up & go’ remedy.
I told you earlier how — after it’s dried in the sun as the plant’s dying off — it can flatten your bicycle tires if you go over it. It also will immediately stop a fun dog walk if it gets in one of their paws, until you gently pull it out for them.
What Science Says
Tribulus Terrestris has shown potential in supporting heart health by aiding in blood pressure management. It’s also been associated with improving kidney health.
Furthermore, there’s a bit of evidence linking it to maintaining healthy testosterone levels.
My Summary
Tribulus Terrestris seems to have some promising effects on overall health, particularly in areas of heart and kidney health, though the proof of its prowess with sexual matters hasn’t shown up in clinical trials.
The dosage in the supplement aligns with the dosage used in some studies, but its effect on testosterone levels needs more evidence.
Tribulus, aka Goat’s Head
Yohimbe
What It Is
Yohimbe is a substance extracted from the bark of the Corynanthe johimbe tree, native to central Africa.
It has a long history in African traditional medicine. In the modern age, it’s often used in supplements and weight loss products.
Its reputation for sexual enhancement is largely <cough> caused by a supplement marketing push a couple of decades ago in the US, thanks to a favorable result in a study that looked at 7 ED clinical trials.
What Science Says
Yohimbe has been associated with weight loss and improving athletic performance, though the evidence isn’t real strong to support that. Some studies suggest it may support blood flow.
On the sexual dysfunction (ED) & erection front, the results are mixed at best. In the real-world, it works for some guys, for some it doesn’t, & for others they have unwanted side effects.
The pro-Yohimbe study I mentioned earlier was from 1998, and more recent research on the topic of sexual desire & performance has been way less enthusiastic.
On the downside, it has also been linked to side effects like elevated heart rate and blood pressure.
Some health issues caused by yohimbe have been severe enough to get its sale banned in many countries throughout the world. And yet another problem with it is that the amount of yohimbe listed in many mass-produced supplements has been proven to be wrong.
My Summary
While Yohimbe might help with sexual performance, it’s definitely no slam dunk that it will work for you. You’d have to try it to see.
Caveat emptor, though. It does come with potential risks you have to be mindful of before you jump on the Hope train.
As far as this Nature’s Truth goat weed & maca blend goes, also be aware that the dosage used in this supplement is higher than the one used in some studies.
Consult a healthcare provider if need be if you have doubts about whether your body can handle a daily dosing of yohimbe.
L-Arginine HCI
What It Is
L-Arginine HCI is a form of the amino acid arginine, combined with hydrochloride. It’s found in many types of foods (meat especially) and it’s also produced in our bodies for all sorts of essential reasons.
What Science Says
L-Arginine HCI has been associated with promoting heart health, particularly due to its ability to aid in widening blood vessels. It has also been linked to improved physical performance and recovery after exercise.
On a topic more relevant to our article here, arginine has shown that daily use of it in large doses has the ability to combat ED in a sweeping meta-survey of 10 clinical trials.
In the researchers’ words,
“The results of our systematic review and meta-analysis provide evidence on the effectiveness of arginine supplements for mild to moderate ED.”
That’s encouraging for arginine, but not so much for the arginine in Nature’s Truth Horny Goat Weed+Maca, as you’ll see below.
My Summary
L-Arginine HCI shows promise in supporting heart health and improving exercise performance. The dosage in this supplement seems consistent with amounts used in many studies, but NOT the erectile dysfunction studies that were analyzed.
Meaning that the 40mg dose in this Nature’ Truth Horny Goat Weed blend is really teeny compared to the doses that meta-survey I mentioned earlier found: 1,500 mg – 5,000 mg per day.
A Closer Look At Safety: The Possible Downsides
It’s true that natural supplements can have side effects, especially if you take more than the recommended dose. Let’s explore this with a balanced approach.
Horny Goat Weed is usually safe to take, but overdoing it might cause mild upset stomach or occasionally skin rashes. If you’re a woman paying close attention to your hormones, remember that it could raise your estrogen levels.
Maca is a root vegetable that’s typically easy to digest. Still, those with sensitive stomachs might feel bloated, particularly if you’re not used to eating lots of starchy foods.
And if you take more than recommended, you might feel your heart race or an uncomfortable level of energy, even though maca is not a stimulant.
Tribulus Terrestris hasn’t shown many side effects in clinical trials. However, some lab studies suggest it might be harmful to cells and hormones, although it’s not clear if this would happen in people.
Yohimbe Extract is the one I think you ought to keep close watch over. It can raise your blood pressure and heart rate if not used correctly.
Heck, it can do that even if someone is using it correctly, simply because we all react differently to these powerful herbs.
Even at reasonable doses, it might cause minor side effects like nausea, abdominal pain, or dizziness. As they say, less can often be more.
Arginine is an amino acid our bodies make for our system’s daily needs, so supplementing it usually causes no significant side effects.
But taking too much might lead to mild gastrointestinal discomfort, like anything else we swallow.
Other Fish in the Sea: Exploring Alternatives
We’ve spent a good deal of time discussing Nature’s Truth Horny Goat Weed with Maca, and you might be asking, “Is this the one?”
It promises to boost your energy and vitality — maybe your sexual performance too — but let’s pause for a moment and think this through.
If Horny Goat Weed and Maca caught your eye, maybe you should look at options that center on these two, leaving out additional ingredients.
The details matter, especially with supplements. Nature’s Truth includes Yohimbe with all its potential side effects, and others like Tribulus and Arginine, which you might not need.
(Arginine as a supplement has proven benefits, but the doses used to achieve that are 40x -100x larger than what Nature’s Truth is giving you.)
And don’t forget the importance of quality, freshness, potency, thoughtful sourcing, & outstanding customer care.
My two alternatives, Maca from The Maca Team and Horny Goat Weed from Nootropics Depot, are made by companies that shine in all of these areas.
If you’re leaning towards the Maca-Goat Weed combo, take a second glance at these options as we check them out now. Your wellness journey deserves the best.
The Maca Team
The Maca Team isn’t just a store. They’re a small, family-run business who truly care about connecting with everyone involved in it, from their Peruvian maca farmers to customers like me.
Maca is all they focus on and it shows. They’ve got a variety of maca products in different forms to suit your preferences.
As far as their maca powders go, they carry all three of maca’s research-tested colors — black, red, and yellow — each one bringing unique health boosts.
The Maca Team gets that we’re all different, with different needs, so they’ve got both raw and gelatinized maca powder on the menu.
Raw maca –the kind we keep in the kitchen here — keeps all those nutrients intact, while gelatinized maca, already cooked, is a great pick for those with sensitive tummies.
You also have a choice between choosing sun-dried or premium dehydrated maca, each with their own flavors and benefits.
And you get to pick the form—powder, capsules, extracts, or chips—making your health journey more personal.
In my house, we use their red and black raw maca powder. Its freshness, taste, and health results are simply way better than the other brands we used before finding The Maca Team.
And the generous & friendly customer care they offer really completes the package, making us loyal fans.
Nootropics Depot
Turn your attention to Nootropics Depot, a leading-edge company trusted worldwide for providing high-quality dietary supplements.
Known for their rigorous lab-testing, dedication to product purity, and commitment to customer satisfaction, they are a name you can trust in your health and wellness journey.
Among their popular products is the Horny Goat Weed capsules, an exceptional blend of traditional wisdom and modern science.
Containing 10% icariin, these capsules promote enhanced blood flow, libido, mood, and even testosterone levels.
They offer you a full-spectrum extract that’s packed with bioactive compounds, amplifying the mood-elevating and energizing effects that Horny Goat Weed is known for.
Making The Choice: Things To Consider
Here are a few ideas I thought I’d share on what to expect out of a supplement you’re thinking of taking.
- Consider your primary goals: Do you really need a supplement with multiple ingredients, or are you mainly interested in the benefits of Horny Goat Weed and Maca? If it’s the latter, opting for high-quality standalone products might be a better choice.
- Pay attention to other ingredients: Some like Yohimbe, can cause unwanted side effects. It’s worth taking a moment to do a little research on all the ingredients in a blend, just so you know what you’re putting into your body.
- Quality matters: Look for companies with a reputation for purity and potency. Freshness counts too – smaller, more meticulous companies often deliver superior products in this regard.
- Safety first: Never exceed the recommended dosage, and always start with the smallest possible dose to see how your body reacts. More isn’t always better.
- Listen to your body: If you notice any adverse reactions, stop taking the supplement immediately. Everyone’s body reacts differently to supplements, so it’s crucial to listen to your body.
Remember, the best supplement for you is the one that lines up best with your unique needs and health goals.
It’s perfectly okay to keep it simple and focus on quality over quantity. Trust your gut, and you won’t go wrong.

FAQ
Here are answers to a few of the commonly asked questions regarding horny goat weed.
How fast does horny goat weed work?
The onset of effects from Horny Goat Weed can vary, depending on the individual and the dosage. For some people, it might take as little as an hour or two after consumption to feel the effects. For others, it might take a few days of consistent use to notice any changes. This variation is natural, as our bodies react differently to supplements.
How long does it take for yohimbe to work?
Yohimbe, a popular supplement, is known for its fast-acting properties. It is often reported to start showing effects within 30 minutes to an hour of ingestion. However, keep in mind that this can vary from person to person. Factors such as metabolism, body weight, and the presence of food in the stomach can affect absorption and effectiveness.
Does horny goat weed increase testosterone?
There are claims that Horny Goat Weed might increase testosterone levels due to its primary active ingredient, icariin. Icariin is thought to stimulate some processes that influence testosterone production. However, concrete scientific evidence supporting this claim is limited. Therefore, while it's a possibility, it's not a confirmed benefit.
Does horny goat weed really work?
The efficacy of Horny Goat Weed has been the subject of many discussions and studies. The general consensus is that it might have positive effects on libido and sexual health, mainly due to its active ingredient, icariin. However, individual results can vary widely, and the quality of the supplement taken can also affect its effectiveness.
Does horny goat weed work on women?
Horny Goat Weed has been used by both men and women for its purported benefits. In women, it is often used to help address issues such as low libido and symptoms of menopause. However, the scientific evidence supporting its effectiveness in women, as with men, is still somewhat limited. As always, individual responses can vary.
Wrapping up
We started off by exploring the world of herbal supplements, delving into the unique benefits of Horny Goat Weed and Maca.
We even took a look at Nature’s Truth product – a blend that brings together these two star ingredients with a few other companions.
We acknowledged that while Nature’s Truth offers a convenient blend, it might not be the perfect fit for everyone.
Especially for those who are particularly interested in the pure benefits of Horny Goat Weed and Maca without the other accompanying ingredients.
For this reason, we presented two wonderful alternatives: the pure maca powder varieties from The Maca Team, and Nootropics Depot’s Horny Goat Weed Capsules.
Both are high-quality products from companies that prioritize freshness, purity, potency, & care for both their customers & their small suppliers.
Lastly, we shared a few things to consider when choosing a supplement – pay attention to what’s inside, prioritize quality, use responsibly, and always listen to your body.
My goal was to provide you with the knowledge and options to make an informed decision. I hope that I achieved that, and I wish you well on your journey to vibrant health.
